ABOUT US

Betsy Ross Resort was created in the early 1960’s primarily as a fishing resort in the Northwest corner of Lake Ida. Yet today, the resort is a return back to the old fashion family getaway, enjoying all of what nature has to offer.  Here in a calm, protected bay on the beautiful north end of Lake Ida, the resort provides the tranquil lake atmosphere that is simply natural for family fun.  With the cabins just steps from the shoreline, dock fishing for the little ones, happy giggles from the water toys, and the most amazing sunsets each night. The resort makes for a perfect lake getaway with friends and family.

In 2014 the resort was purchased by Gary and Patty Palmersheim.  After having raised their four children in Rochester, MN and Patty having been an RN at Mayo Clinic and Gary a computer engineer at IBM for 25 years, they felt it was a good time to follow a dream.  Their past summers were spent on the water, either on the Mississippi or vacationing at other resorts in the Alexandria area. They always felt that they left their heart in Alex each time they returned back home to Rochester.   What always drew them back vacationing at a resort was the quality time spent with family and friends while enjoying the many things nature had to offer.  Their vision was to continue to share this with others.

You will frequently find some of their family working or playing in the resort grounds or store. Come join us for evening fire or enjoy a complimentary bucket of popcorn to accompany your family games just feet from the gentle waves on the shoreline!

As it was from it's beginning, the primary draw to Betsy Ross Resort and Lake Ida is fishing. With a primarily sand bottom, Lake Ida has crystal clear water with visibility exceeding 16 feet. The lake is an exceptional fishery with a very complex bottom structure and many deep holes up to 110 feet. Fisher-people come from all around to experience spring crappie and walleye. Many fishermen prefer the fight of a large norther pike or muskie. Young and old alike still enjoy our large pan fish, and you can fill your live well with large mouth and small mouth bass any time of year. Many of our fishermen and their families have been coming back to Lake Ida their entire lives and some only ever fish our shores.

Little Ida is also an ideal recreational area as it is large enough to make long runs and has nearly 360' of shoreline so boaters can almost always find a calm area for water sport. The 4200 acre lake is nearly six miles long, making it a great place cruise looking at a complex shoreline with bullrush, sand beaches, and many beautiful houses.

Many people enjoy the wildlife on the lake. Loons prefer deep and clear water which makes Lake Ida a perfect spot to watch and listen to our state bird. Fall Loons gather on Lake Ida in the hundreds prior to departing on their long migration. You will also find large numbers of geese, ducks, white pelicans, white and grey egrets, and many bald eagles flying and perching in nearby trees.
